Description

The research aims to investigate how industrial symbiosis can support local companies in transitioning toward more sustainable and circular production models. Basing on an analytical model to assess the feasibility of industrial symbiosis within specific territories, the research identifies key enabling factors, as well as barriers and challenges affecting implementation and dedicates a central role to open innovation in supporting industrial symbiosis through the development of dynamic digital catalogs. These catalogs should be continuously updated with information on research infrastructures, innovations, and patents, so to enable cross-sector collaboration and to accelerate knowledge exchange among stakeholders.
Finally, the project will include a comprehensive assessment of the social and economic impacts of industrial symbiosis initiatives, considering both direct and indirect effects, such as job creation, local economic development, and environmental sustainability.
