In April 2026, students from the CU Beta – Human Society: Socio-Economic Impacts, Institutions and Theories curriculum came together for a dedicated in-person event, reinforcing the collaborative and interdisciplinary ethos at the heart of the PhD-SDC programme.
The event brought together PhD candidates from the 40th and 41st cycles to share research progress, exchange perspectives, and deepen their understanding of the social, institutional, and economic dimensions of sustainable development and climate change.
Sessions explored a range of themes central to the CU Beta curriculum, including climate governance frameworks, inclusive development pathways, societal transformations driven by environmental pressures, and the role of institutions in steering just transitions. Expert speakers joined the students to enrich discussions with insights from both academic research and policy practice.
Beyond the formal programme, the event provided a valuable opportunity for peer networking and cross-cycle exchange, strengthening the sense of community that characterises the PhD-SDC network.
The PhD-SDC programme regularly organises these curriculum-specific events as part of its commitment to providing students with tailored training alongside the broader multidisciplinary experience of the programme.
A warm thank you to all participants, organisers, and guest contributors who made this event a productive and inspiring gathering for the CU Beta community.
