Grosseto, Italy

The PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change program launched the 2024-2025 academic year with an immersive and hands-on CU5 event, held from September 25-27 in Grosseto.

The CU5 (Agriculture and Forestry) event took a comprehensive, transdisciplinary approach to tackling modern sustainability challenges in agriculture, rural development, and innovation. Set in the heart of Italy's rural landscape, participants had the unique opportunity to combine academic learning with hands-on fieldwork and collaboration with local stakeholders.

Practical activities such as foraging, teamwork exercises, design thinking, and public speaking workshops helped bridge the gap between theory and practice. This cutting-edge model for doctoral training enhances both scientific knowledge and real-world competencies, equipping students to address sustainability challenges with innovative solutions.

The event was organized in collaboration with Tenuta di Paganico and the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Agro-Environmental Sciences at the University of Pisa.
