My name is Antonino Simone Spanó, and I am a Ph.D. student enrolled in a national and multidisciplinary Italian Ph.D. program led by the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia (Italy), currently hosted by the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria (Italy). My research field is ocean engineering and wave energy converters (specifically, OWC type).
I am currently conducting my research abroad at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Here, I will spend six months, utilizing the available time to engage with various colleagues and professors at this university, a hub of excellence in the field of offshore floating bodies dynamics.
From the outset, I have had excellent impressions. The environment is extremely stimulating, composed of colleagues from all over the world, united by the desire to enhance our skills, and strongly welcoming. The welcoming attitude of my colleagues and the availability of my supervisor have allowed me to approach the daily challenges of such an experience with extreme serenity.
This experience is pushing me further into the global dimension that defines the research world. Returning to Italy will not be marked by longing or sadness, but rather by a sense of gratitude for having had the opportunity to live through such an experience.
